my double dip day went like this…

It was a comedy of errors at Walgreens tonight. A comedy of errors.

My husband and I went to Walgreens after dinner. We first went to our favorite store. They didn’t have the Vacuum Bags so I knew we weren’t going to do any of our planned transactions there. But my husband, the great man that he is, still managed to purchase enough for us to use a $5 coupon. So we did. We didn’t use any coupons for the transaction there, just some items he deemed essential.

So we then headed to the other Walgreens store in town. They had everything so I was happy it was working on our favor. Then we checked out…everything went through fine, coupons scanned, cashier was happy, I was looking forward to the savings and my RRs.

Then no RR printed. I asked and luckily she answered with the “The machine isn’t working”. Phew! So she instructed me to go to the Photo Counter and talk to, I assume, the Assistant Manager. I explained the situation and she kindly put my Robitussin & Dimetapp purchases through and out came my $5RR for those. And because my husband is well-schooled, he soon followed me at the Photo Counter and told the AM that the Advil RRs didn’t print. I was a bit nervous about that one because I thought the AM was going to question WHERE in the ad it said we would get RRs for Advil. Luckily she didn’t. So she put those through and out came the $10RR.

When we got home, I checked through our receipts and realised that:

I picked up two of the same $5.99 Vacuum Bags (I swear, these Vacuum Bags HATE me - not only because I couldn’t find it all of last month and most of this month and now THIS! )

I was charged $2.99 each for the Weight Watchers bags. I got one FREE, which is all good but I still paid $5.98 for 2 bags when I should only have been charged $3 for both! Grrrr.

I forgot to give my husband a 25c Charmin Coupon. I know, not a big deal, but it’s still 25c I can live with this one though.

The cashier didn’t scan through my $1 coupon for the Robitussin!

So there you go. That was my day. And I now have a headache *Where are those Advil PMs?*

So, looks like I’ll be back tomorrow to exchange the Vacuum Bag and get some money back for the Weight Watchers chocolate. If I have the energy. I may just concede defeat and have it be Walgreens - 1, Patricia - 0. I’ll let you know…

I’m glad everyone else has been sharing their day - keep them coming. And I’m even happier to see that everyone’s ecstatic about the deals they’ve gotten. That’s the way it should be, it should be fun and enjoyable. Well done!

P.S. I probably shouldn’t call this my Double Dip Day because I didn’t really use any September AND October IVCs

I had a atypically good “double-dip” day. Usually my attempts to capitalize on all of the two-day deals end in frustration, too.

I got the 3xGarnier deal with the October ivc and the September rebate and the MFQ; the Glade odor eliminator with the mfq, the September IVC, and the October rebate, the Glade candle (with some good combination that I can’t quite remember now), and the Pert plus with the October IVC and the September rebate.

I had to ask the clerk to go get the October books, but they did it cheerfully. Also used the $5/20 coupons and made money on the deal. Very satisfying.

Well let me tell you the mistake I made. I found everything I wanted today at Walgreen’s, did a post about it, went on to the Walgreen’s site to submit my FAR and rebate items for October so I wouldn’t forget about it. While I was there I decided I’d go ahead and submit my September rebate since I was done with it. EXCEPT….I forgot to add my Garnier double dip transaction. UGH! So, I will be returning all that shampoo and conditioner tomorrow because I don’t want to loose money on it. Sigh…

BTW, I still haven’t gotten my August rebate gift card yet. Is anyone else experiencing a delay like that?

I’m so sorry it was such a rough Wags weekend for you! Sometimes it feels like a puzzle that doesn’t work unless you do each step correctly!!!!! So frustrating.

@Sandy: I’m yet to have a Perfect Double Dip Weekend. Somewhere along the line I either make the mistake or Walgreens manages to burn me. One time, I left the store without my $5.26 change!!! I was so used to paying with a card that I just walked out. And my favorite cashier was also used to me paying with a card so I think that’s why he forgot too! I’m spaced out/flustered during DDD. It’s all that excitement, maybe Yeah, I’ll blame it on that.

But you had a GREAT day and sounds like you got everything - plus an October ESR Catalog! Both my stores didn’t have it. I haven’t done the Garnier deal - a bit so-so about it - but I still have tomorrow to decide. I’m more concerned about getting my 8/$1 Halloween Tumbers, believe it or not

@Dooneybug: Oh no!!!! Not sure if it would work if you send in your receipt? Bummer, sorry to it happened.

Yeah, that’s a lot of money to lose out on, especially if you’re not in desperate need of all that hair care or particularly brand loyal to Garnier. Good luck, whatever you choose to do.

I think I would have been more frustrated if we walked out of there without our $15 in RRs. Luckily that worked out.

I just want to say I thought the Garnier deal was well worth it. My Garniers wer 6.99. The had a shampoo (ginormous bottle!) and they came with a free thing (full size) of deep conditioning treatment, plus a $1 coupon and a free sample size package of some Garnier skin stuff! So I got 2 shampoos, 2 free conditioners, 1 conditioner, 2 coupons and 2 sample size skin care. Total 20.97-12 qs=8.97 then the $10 rebate! I just hope I like the shampoo!

I actually had to call customer service this month because after I submitted my reciepts and my rebate claim everything dissapeared from their computer system. The had some kind of glitch this month where there system was down for about 2 days they said. So I think they are running behind. I submitted mine last month before the time was up and just got mine yesterday. I did get a check though and not the card (another glitch!) Hope you get yours soon!

I’ve read that some customers have had to wait a month and a half to get their rebate card - hopefully you won’t be in that same boat.

I think all is not well at their HQ - it’s glitch after glitch. Poor Walgreens

I hope you get yours soon. I’m sure you’re itching to spend your rebate money. I know I would be!

Its kinda funny how worked up we all get before these big sales, and sounds like all of us had a blunder or two along the way.
last month I learned to not submit my rebates until the very end of the period, as WAGS started adding deals later in the month that I would have liked to take advantage of.
Next month I will be less anxious at DD time (if we still get one)and take my time before I run to the 24 hour walgreens at the earliest possible time I can get there, because 7 am sounded way too late for me this morning.

I actually had a pretty easy days at Walgreens. They already had the October books, picked up almost everything I needed, and after all of my coupons I got 3 bottles of pert free(2 large and 1 small bottle) and the cashier still used my $5/$20 coupon. And I only paid$9.78 after tax.

I went to 2 stores and was charger $1.50 for the WW candy at one and $2.99 at another. I didn’t realize it until I got home for the $2.99 one. ugh! it wasn’t marked on the shelves at the second store, though.

We also made a mistake, forgot to give the 5 off 20 coz I went to the bathroom while DH was paying for our stuff. The cashier called the A.M coz there was a line forming and told him A.M can assist. So we showed the $5 q and DH asked him if there’s anyway we can use the $5 off coupon and then A.M asked “after you already paid for the transaction?” I was already embarrashed but DH wasn’t. Surprisingly, he gave us $5 cash with a jerk attitude. I felt embarrashed and dunno if I want to go back to that store soon. I have a feeling he doesn’t like us already lol

y’know, i had a long, harrowing experience at wags yesterday too…wasn’t even doing any double dipping - my least favorite assistant manager was on duty, of course…i may have to find a new favorite walgreens…that zantac coupon almost killed me, but i fought for it and won lol

And I’m still questioning my “luck” at Walgreens. I’m new at this so I probably don’t “get” everything to begin with, but it doesn’t help when my Wags has different prices than your scenarios, so that throws me off, and they don’t have things labeled very good… not to mention whoever is at the cash register. I’ve learned to leave LOTS of time for Wags & CVS shopping. I bought the wrong Reach toothbrush, so I didn’t get the RR (but I had a $1 coupon), and I didn’t realize you needed 4 bags of Harvest chocolate (but I can fix that yet). I got the Glade oil candle & room spray for fairly cheap. Thanks for all your tips!

Thanks for sharing your frustrating experiences with us as well. I get so excited reading everyone’s great deals, then last week, I blew it trying to use a $10/$40, so this week I didn’t even bother waiting for a possible coupon and just shopped on Wed. I probably saved more that way not getting all worked up about trying to spend just the right amount, but only got what I needed

I’m so so about heading to double dip today, my printer is running out of ink and the $5/$20 coupon printed in only blue ink, do you think they will still take it? They are always kind of “oh no” when I’m about to check out cuz they know it’ll be a complicated trans. I feel like Walgreens employees think I am doing something immoral sometimes. Like stealing from the store by being smart with the coupons. This month I entered in my receipt and clicked save and return next thing I know I’m getting an email saying that my rebate is being processed, I freaked because I wasn’ done, I call Customer Service and they gave me the address of HQ and said I should send my receipts and a note about what happened….has anyone else heard or tried this, I don’t really want to send off my only copy of the receipt and just hope they will give me my rebates…..

Oh yah one other question: For the Nivea for Men bodywash, because they reoffered it online or Oct. ; if I already got the rebate for Sept. can I get it again now for Oct since they added it online or is it just for peopel that didn’t get to do it in Sept?

Well, it was great reading your blogs. I am glad that I am not the only person that this things happen to. I am a newby at this stuff going on 1 month. I did some dd last month and also made use of the coupons 5/20 or whatever they have been. They are nervewracking and sometimes I wonder if it is worth it. Especially when they are out of things when I have it all planned out. I am usually in a hurry and need to get in and out because I have to run the kids somewhere. I have to be super organized and still things don’t always add up for me. Keep up the good work gals and thanks for doing this blog

I did the RR deal for the $25 of L’Oreal and mine $10 RR didn’t print. The cashier’s line was so long he said it was just easier and faster for him to give me a GC with the $10 on it. But because he had to ring it up, it included tax and I got an extra 83 cents! Not much, but it was money in my favor.

Yay for extra money! Sometimes I wish they could just give me a GC too, if something goes wrong. At least then there’s no time restrictions on when I had to spend it by.

Did you have trouble printing the RR at the Broadway store? That printer has been down for ever and I’m about sick of it.

They gave me cash back, yesterday, after the register wouldn’t take my RR because the printer was screwy.

@Kristin: YES! The one on the front counter. I hadn’t been to the Broadway store for a while so I hadn’t noticed it was not working - but did see that it looked like there was jammed paper in there. So I had a feeling it wasn’t going to print.

I also had a Crest RR that WOULDN’T scan there and the cashier tried a million times. Then she called the Manager and the he/she gave the line of “RR won’t print because you used a coupon”. We went to the South store instead and it scanned fine.

I actually prefer to go alone because I can gather my ideas in my head, especially if my planned deals fall through (I try to have multiple contingency plans).

I didn’t realize until this post that you actually LIVE here, I thought you were visiting for the football game the other day.

@Kristin: Yes, I’ll be a resident of CoMo for at least 5 years while my husband does his PhD at MU. After that, we may go back to Australia - I’m very homesick. But then not being able to work OR drive makes me kinda loopy. Couponing has become somewhat of my saving grace.

I would love to do a coupon swap! If you want any Febreze Noticeables or Plugin coupons, I’m your woman. My husband REFUSES to let me buy them at all cost. He thinks it’s a fire hazard - so I have all those just gathering dust And I also don’t have any use for any baby or pet coupons.

Where do you get your newspaper? I never buy the Tribune because their coupon values suck - so I always pick up the Dispatch at one of those newspaper machines at the gas station (to avoid paying tax).

We live off Forum Blvd, near Schnucks. Which side of town do you live at?
